Chairman & Founder – Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan
Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan APM was appointed as the top police officer in Western Australia Police in 2004. He is responsible for more than 5,800 police officers, over 1,800 police staff and an operating budget of more than $1.2 billion a year. In 2011 he established Bright Blue – Police Commissioner’s Fund for Sick Kids. He is married with four children, has a passion for rock-and-roll music, plays guitar and is lead singer in his own band’The Filth’. Commissioner O’Callaghan’s qualifications include a PhD, Bachelor of Education (1st Class Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Education) and in 1997, he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship.
Michael Buzzard (BA, MBA)
Michael has worked in the resources industry for almost 20 years. He has held a variety of senior commercial and public affairs roles during this time and has a long-term commitment to community and health-related activities. Most recently Michael has worked to raise funds for the Ethan Davies Scholarship for Brain Cancer Research. Michael is married with two young children and through Bright Blue is focussed on raising money for lesser known activities which are vitally important to improving the health and wellbeing of sick children in Western Australia.
Inspector Victor Hussey APM
Born in Plymouth in the UK in 1962, Vic started his motorcycle adventures aged 16 and would spend endless hours riding and fixing his bike. He worked as a Police Constable in London for the Metropolitan Police before moving to Australia in 1989 with his Australian wife. After joining the Western Australian Police in 1990, he moved to Geraldton and later Broome and after nine years in the country, he returned to Perth with his wife and two sons. He currently holds the position of Police Inspector. Voted Western Australia Police Officer of the Year in 1997 and awarded the Australian Police Medal in the Queens Birthday Honours in 1990 he joined the Board of Bright Blue in 2011 and has continued his commitment to making a difference. He enjoys home renovation, planning motorcycle adventures and he is still fixing his motorbike.
Lorraine has extensive public and private sector experience in a range of business development and client management roles, having previously worked with Computershare, Salmat and Hermes Precisa Australia before joining Australia Post in 2013. She also has a strong training and development background, as well as hospitality skills mostly acquired while living for many years in the UK, Greece and France. Lorraine believes in actively participating in the community, and apart from Bright Blue fundraises for some of her favourite charities including the Shenton Park Dogs Home and Animals Australia.
